Botulinum

Botulinum toxin is a substance capable of temporarily blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the muscles, resulting in their relaxation.

It has a long history of therapeutic applications in the neurological and ophthalmic fields, and more recently, scientific studies have revealed new possible applications in the prevention of hypertrophic scars and keloids, in neuropathic pain following post-herpetic neuropathy, and in some dermatological conditions.

In aesthetic medicine, its use has been authorized by the Ministry of Health and the American FDA (Food and Drug Administration) for the reduction of expression lines on the forehead due to the hypercontractility of facial muscles.

Indeed, if correctly used in terms of location and dosage, it can lead to a natural smoothing of forehead wrinkles, between the eyebrows and around the eyes, giving a more youthful and rested appearance.

Moreover, by reducing the dynamic contraction of the muscles, botulinum allows for the reduction of the formation and deepening of wrinkles with beneficial effects on facial aging in the medium and long term.

How it works

The treatment is performed after a careful evaluation of the patient's facial muscle anatomy at rest and during contraction, then a personalized map of injection points is planned using micro-needles.

The dose to be injected and the depth vary depending on the location, the activity of the muscle groups, and the desired result. The treatment does not require local anesthesia on the face and can be performed in a short time (approximately 15-20 minutes), it should be repeated when the drug loses its effectiveness, that is, every 4-6 months after the first treatments or less frequently after repeated treatments.

Results

The results are visible after a few days and are maximal after about a week, with small differences depending on the type of toxin used. Possible complications are related to the spread of the drug to muscles adjacent to those injected and are represented by eyebrow asymmetry, eyelid ptosis.
